In 1674 the Spanish composer Gaspar Sanz (1640-1710) produced a large volume of guitar music entitled Instrucciòn de Mùsica sobre la Guitarra Española – a complete baroque guitar instruction book covering all aspects of playing.
Of this collection Sanz’s Canarios is undoubtedly the most famous and is a musical portrait of the lively, syncopated dance from the Canary Islands.
In this arrangement its antiphonal effect would be most striking if the players are spaced well apart. Great as an encore.
