Description

Trevor Duncan (1924 -2005) was the pseudonym of London-born musician Leonard Charles Trebilco – a largely self-taught musician for whom composition was originally a sideline whilst he worked as a BBC engineer.  BBC employees weren’t allowed to have their music broadcast so, instead, he wrote so-called “mood music” (under his pseudonym) for newsreels and other companies not connected with the Corporation.

By 1956 his growing fame as a composer meant that it was impossible to keep his ‘alter ego’ separate from his BBC identity so he took the decision to give up his day job to concentrate on composing full-time.  It wasn’t long before the BBC chose the March from his Little Suite to be the theme tune to the hugely popular Dr Finlay’s Casebook TV series, which ran from 1962-71.  The series, about everyday goings on at a Scottish village medical practice during the late 1920s, was an instant hit with viewers in spite of stiff competition from US exports Dr Kildare and Ben Casey and made Trevor Duncan something of a household name.  Right up until his death, aged 81, he continued to write – frequently working through the night!
