Description
Two ballets were incorporated into Offenbach’s operetta Le voyage dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon). The second ballet – Ballet des flocons de neige (Ballet of the snowflakes) – appears at the end of Act 3 in which the action takes place at ‘50 degrees below zero’. Blue Swallows is the first of eight movements in the ballet, and presumably marks the incoming winter season with the outgoing migration of the swallows?

Another movement – a Polka – has long been a customer favourite.
