Description

Mack the Knife (Die Moritat von Mackie Messer) is a ballad from the 1928 Threepenny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper)  – a “play with music” by Bertolt Brecht and music by Kurt Weill.  The opera begins with the ballad of “Mack the Knife”, which introduces the audience to the many terrible crimes committed by the central character, Macheath (Mack), a notorious criminal in Victorian London.  The song has long been a popular standard and has been recorded by many artists, including (among many, many others) Bobby Darin, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald,

In this version for wind quintet in addition to the ballad itself this arrangement also features optional sections of Weill’s wind band suite.
