Description

Gabriel Grovlez (1879-1944) wrote L’Almanach Aux Images (Book of Pictures) in 1922.  It is a set of eight descriptive miniatures, each prefaced with a poem by Tristan Klingsor who is best known for his artistic association with another French composer, Maurice Ravel.

The last piece in the collection is the exquisite Petites Litanies de Jésus (Little Prayers to Jesus).  Klingsor’s poem describes Jesus, on the cross, who, despite his immense suffering, smiles at those below him.

A lovely piece for Easter.
