Description

Although perhaps not a household name, Frederic Curzon (1899-1973) is considered among the very best of the English light music composers.  He was somewhat of a child prodigy: aged just 12 his work was already being performed; by 16 he was working as a pianist in a London theatre orchestra; and, aged 20, he had his own orchestra. He was also an incredibly well-respected organist, giving countless recitals across Britain. Over the years, composition came to occupy more of his time and his output is both varied and prolific. As well as substantial orchestral pieces, humoresques, fanfares, a burlesque opera and a pantomime, he also wrote ‘mood music’ and scores for silent film, radio and television.

The Boulevardier is undoubtedly Curzon’s best-known piece. This delightfully captivating Characteristic intermezzo was written and published during World War II. It depicts a self-assured, sophisticated young man-about-town strolling through the boulevards of Paris, with, no doubt, cane in hand.
